Lotto Max is a Canadian lottery game coordinated by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, as one of the country’s three national lottery games. Introduced on September 19, 2009, with its first draw occurring on September 25, 2009, the game replaced Lotto Super 7. Lotto Max drawings are held every Friday.

How to play Lotto Max

There are two fun and easy ways to play LOTTO MAX. With Quick Pick, the lottery terminal will randomly select three sets of seven numbers (from 1 to 49) for each $5 play.

You get three sets of numbers per $5 play. Each set consists of seven numbers from 1 to 49. Jackpots start at $10 million and can grow to $60 million! Simply ask your lottery retailer for a Quick Pick OR check the Quick Pick box on a Lotto Max Selection Slip and the lottery terminal will randomly choose your three sets of numbers for you.

Or on a Lotto Max Selection Slip, mark seven numbers from 1 to 49 that you want to play. For each set of numbers played, the lottery terminal will generate two additional sets of numbers chosen. You can play up to five times per ticket. If you want to play for more than one draw, mark the number of draws in the Advance Play box.

Lotto Max results can be known at the Lotto Max draw every Friday, seven numbers are drawn from 1 — 49, plus a Bonus number, used for two prize categories.

To win or share the LOTTO MAX jackpot, you need to match all seven of your LOTTO MAX numbers to the seven numbers drawn.

When the game is in MAXMILLIONS mode, an additional seven numbers are drawn from 1 — 49 for each MAXMILLION available. MAXMILLIONS are drawn following the main LOTTO MAX draw.

The odds of winning any cash prize per $5 play are 1 in 36. The Lotto Max jackpot prize is carried over to the next draw if they are not won. The Lotto Max jackpot prize will be shared if there is more than one winning selection. 48% of Lotto Max sales are dedicated to the Prize Fund. 3/7, 3/7+, and 4/7 prizes are paid from the Prize Fund, the balance remaining comprises the Pools Fund. Share of Pool means the total prize amount allocated to any specific prize category is shared by the number of winning selections.

The July 6, 2012 drawing was the first to offer a major prize pool (for matching all 7 numbers exactly) of $100 million, with a $50 million jackpot and 50 of the $1 million Maxmillions prizes. Three consecutive weeks of rollovers fuelled the large payout, which marked the largest Lotto Max drawing under the previous caps This combination of a $50 million jackpot and 50 of the $1 million Maxmillions prizes, totalling $100 million in main prizes, has been replicated on other occassions, including June 2015.

A new record was established on the August 12, 2016 draw, with a total major prize pool (for matching all 7 numbers exactly) of $102 million, anchored with the new cap of $60 million for the main jackpot and 42 of the $1 million Maxmillions prizes. The jackpot had rolled over for eight consecutive weeks, fuelling the new prize pool record. The $102 million prize pool figure ($60 million plus 42 of the $1 million Maxmillions) was replicated on the draw of January 6, 2017.
